Island

Island puts a Dynamic Island on the desktop. A black pill sits at the top center of the screen. On a notched Mac it covers the cutout. Click the pill and the active plugin gets the tap.

In the pill

Two plugins ship with it.

• Agent Pulse watches Claude Code, Codex, and the official Grok CLI through local lifecycle hooks. A session shows up as needs-you, working, or the turn ended. It does not take an API key, and it does not read the transcript. Site: island-agent-pulse.pages.dev.
• Spotify Lyrics reads Spotify Desktop on macOS through Automation and pulls a synced line from LRCLIB. Compact is one line. Expanded is the strip. Site: island-spotify.pages.dev.

The host has a market: search the catalog, look at a package, install it, turn it off, remove it. The menu and island-cli talk to the same manager.

One core, a shell per OS

Rust underneath. macOS and Windows draw the pill in GPUI and ask the OS for window level, the notch, and the menu bar. Linux uses GTK and gtk-layer-shell, or X11.

The app, the market, and the management CLI are proprietary. The plugins, the plugin API, and the SDK are MIT. The public SDK is island-plugin-sdk.

The signed download is still being prepared. On this machine it starts with cargo run --release.
